SANUKI ReMIX
Project Outline
SANUKI ReMIX is a project located at an important cultural property called “Hiunkaku” in the ruins of Takamatsu Castle (Tamamo Park) for creating new high added value through a collaboration between artists and creators from around the world and traditional craftsmen and artisans from Kagawa Prefecture who are supporting local industries.
This project has been selected by the Agency for Cultural Affairs as a “Project for adding high value to cultural resources in response to COVID-19.”
In addition to promoting tourism and consumption by adding value to cultural resources, the purpose is to promote cultural tourism during the COVID-19 pandemic and create a positive cycle of “cultural promotion, tourism promotion, and regional revitalization.”
Background and
purpose of the project
Takamatsu City in Kagawa Prefecture is an area where traditional crafts like lacquerware, paper lanterns, and Takamatsu bonsai have flourished and have been passed down for generations.
It is also known for the production Aji Stone (Ajiishi). During the Showa era, Takamatsu City served as the base for world-renowned artist Isamu Noguchi, who created many sculptures using Aji stone.
While Takamatsu City is known for its own traditional culture and industries, it also has a history of welcoming people and cultures from outside Japan, and has been a hub for exchange.
This project is located in “Hiunkaku,” which is an important cultural property of the Takamatsu Castle ruins (Tamamo Park) in the center of Takamatsu City, and is a point of pride for local residents. Artists and creators from around the world have collaborated with traditional craftsmen from Sanuki who support local industries, to create new high added value by combining their own ideas and skills.
